In the 5 day Intensive:

  • Identify nail and skin disorders, structural deformities, and the risk factors impacting mobility

  • Learn advanced techniques in foot care with daily podiatric drill experience

  • Understand the complexities of the high risk foot, including Diabetes Mellitus, and learn assessments necessary to prevent complication

  • Be informed of Infection Control Practices and Instrument Management and Sterilization Standards within British Columbia and Canada

  • Daily theory followed by clinical experience using evidence-based practice

  • Receive a Certificate of Completion from Whole Health Care, in Advanced Nursing Foot Care

  • Maximum class size is 6 students to ensure a positive student/instructor ratio

  • All instruments, supplies and podiatric drills are provided for the duration of the program

  • Whole Health Care is an approved education provider through the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Blue Cross program for basic, advanced and diabetic foot care providers

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

This course is designed for the Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.

COURSE FORMAT:

This is a 37.5 hour intensive program. 

Class takes place Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day.

 

COURSE ACTIVITIES:

This course is classroom based with instructor-led theory and daily clinical experience.  The daily clinical portion involves practical application of skills with supervised assessment performed on clients and fellow students.  

There are opportunities for client assessment, use of basic and specialized foot care instruments and tools, performance of routine and preventative care, recognizing and managing the high risk foot, including Diabetes Mellitus, and client education. 

All foot care instruments, supplies and podiatric drills are provided for the duration of the program.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

All foot care instruments, supplies and comprehensive materials are included in course tuition.

Nursing uniforms are to be worn daily.

STUDENT EVALUATION:

Open Book Final Exam with 75% pass mark required.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Nursing Foot Care. 

I did not realize what an important role Foot Care Nurses play in health care & that there is such a huge demand for it.
