Advanced Nursing Foot Care Intensive
This intensive 5-day course is designed to provide Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Nurse Practitioners with the principles, knowledge and skills necessary for a career as a Foot Care Nurse (FCN). The curriculum is designed for nurses new to foot care as well as experienced Foot Care Nurses looking to update their competencies.
With daily theory and hands-on clinical experience, students will learn from a team of experienced professionals. The daily clinical portion gives students the opportunity to practice basic and advanced skills with clients and fellow students.
This comprehensive program follows current Best Practice Guidelines and evidence-based practice including instrument management and sterilization protocols.
Whole Health Care Inc. is an approved education provider through the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Blue Cross program for basic, advanced and diabetic foot care providers.

Describe Anatomy & Physiology of the foot in relation to general assessment.
Identify various nail and skin conditions, and determine their causes, prevention, and treatment.
Identify various structural deformities, and determine their causes, prevention, and treatment.
Ascertain the differences between Podiatrists and Pedorthists; understand and recognize the purpose of orthotics, gait analysis and padding/strapping techniques
Evaluate client mobility and range of motion (ROM) to prevent injury to the client and practitioner.
Identify the High Risk foot (diabetic, vascular insufficient clients) and perform assessment techniques to implement specialized care plans.
Apply the theory and practice necessary to perform basic and advanced foot care procedures with documentation specific to nursing foot care.
Understand Infection Control Practices and Instrument Management and Sterilization Standards.
This course is designed for the Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.

This is a 37.5 hour intensive program. Class takes place Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm each day.
This course is classroom based with instructor-led theory and daily clinical experience.
The daily clinical portion involves practical application of skills with supervised assessment, performed on clients and fellow students. There are opportunities for client assessment, use of basic and specialized foot care instruments and tools, performance of routine and preventative care, recognizing and managing the high risk foot, and client education. All foot care instruments and supplies are provided for the clinical portion.

SUPPLIES & EQUIPMENT:
All foot care instruments and supplies are provided.
Nursing uniforms are to be worn daily.
Lunch is the responsibility of the student.
Open Book Final Exam with 75% pass mark required.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Nursing Foot Care.
